Ok folks – you are going to LOVE this app we’ve been looking at! It started with a reader (and friend) who said, “Do you guys promote any type of thing where we can plan day trips without needing to book a whole cruise or resort?” Well, as it turns out, why yes! Yes we can! It’s called “Headout.”

We’ll cover it in depth in this review, but let’s start with the name itself: “Headout.” If you love the sound of “heading out” on your own special adventure right when you feel the urge, then the Headout app may just be what you need.

Basically, Headout is a travel (actually, more of an “event”) and adventure planning app designed to help you plan fun adventures in many great locations all over the world starting with those experiences closest to you (depending on how close you are to or visiting one of the destination centers they feature).

So, let’s say you’re visiting Paris (please take me! take me!) and you want to plan something for one of your days or evenings there. You’ll find shows, river cruises, and tours that are easy for you to research and book right on the app.

The Many Benefits of Headout

As intimated above, the Headout app offers users a wide range of options and benefits for planning and booking their vacation experiences with them. We figured we could write up a “top 10 reasons to use Headout,” but frankly, we had a hard time narrowing the benefits down to only ten.

The more we looked, and wondered how it might work if (for example), you were in New York City, but not particularly interested in seeing Broadway plays… well, the more we were impressed. Just when you think you may not find something to suit your particular tastes, you’ll find something!

So, with that we realized that there was:

• Far-reaching variety

Variety is the spice of life and Headout has plenty of it to offer. From city tours and theme parks and attractions to perfect dates, there is much to do with Headout. The wide range of options that users of the app can enjoy is available in two primary forms – where to go and what to do.

– Location, location, location

Just as location is the most important part of purchasing or renting commercial and residential real estate, so too is the location the primary part of planning a trip. Where you go, in many ways, is just as important as why you go and what you do there. So, using the New York visit as an example, you might not be into Broadway plays, but maybe you’d like a walking tour. Headout has ’em. And, it’s not like they just slap up some tour that they found on Craigslist or something.

It’s the real deal with real outfitters/guides. Same thing with restaurant/pub crawls (my kind of outing!). You may not know YOUR own way around a city, but your guide DOES! 🙂

Truly, there really is something for everyone. I can guarantee you that my dad would not enjoy a “foodie” experience – but if he sees the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the (American) Museum of Natural History (both in NYC) or the Louvre (on that trip to Paris that I keep hinting at) – he’d be all in.

One thing that we noticed in exploring the app was that while some events have a set time and strict no-cancellation policies, others are more open. For example, while we are enjoying Paris, we want to take in the Moulin Rouge Show with Dinner (of course we do!). There’s no wiggle room here – You will arrive for 6:30 pm, and then dinner is served at 7:00 pm, followed by the famous cabaret performance at 9:00 (when all the folks arrive that DIDN’T get the dinner like we did).

But, our tickets to the Louvre will leave us more leeway in terms of the time of day or days we want to visit.

• Options at your fingertips

The best part about having options is having them right when you need them. Headout allows users to travel at the drop of a hat. In today’s world, schedules and activities can change at the drop of a hat. It helps, therefore, to have a travel and vacation app that allows you to plan and also readjust your plan if need be.

Using our Louvre visit as an example, there is a 6-hour cancellation policy; helpful if something unexpected comes up. The thing is that at Headout, they SPELL OUT THE POLICIES. Sorry… I didn’t mean to “yell” that out, but I think it’s a VERY transparent and truthful aspect of the app.

So, when you are booking your event or outing, look through the entire listing. It’s ALL spelled out. For example, when you book your dinner at the Moulin Rouge they spell out that the Moulin Rouge has a “strict non-refundable policy.”

But, let’s say you booked The Lido Show with Champagne deal. They have a 7-day refund/cancellation policy. And a dress code. No flip flops. No sneakers. But, again, this is all spelled out in the event description. That gives me a perfect excuse to go shopping for a lovely evening outfit. In Paris. Works for me…

There are countless options. Period.

• Nearby Gems

One of the unique features about Headout is the fact that it redefines vacation experiences for the user. More often than not, we think of vacations, rest and relaxation as something we have to travel far and wide to experience. However, Headout is changing all that.

Most of us living in New York. London, Hawaii or any of the other cities or towns featured in the Headout app are scarcely aware of the hotspots in and around our area. We mentioned lots of options. I was just scrolling around the app, and decided that now I want to visit Amsterdam, because they have this REALLY cool (no pun intended) Amsterdam Icebar with Drinks visit!  And, yes, you get special cold-weather gear to wear inside the bar. Otherwise it really wouldn’t be quite as much fun.

Amsterdam looks like a truly fun city to visit! They even have a “Red Light District Walking Tour” – which I’d definitely want to only take if I had someone who knows the lay of the land, if you know what I mean…

If, on the other hand, I decided I didn’t want to see something quite so edgy, I also like the looks of the Dutch Wine & Cheese Evening Cruise. So, you see what I mean!

One of the best things about the Headout application is how user-friendly it is. For starters, popular cities are immediately accessible from the home page in a drop down menu (see the screenshot at left).
